How overtime pay is calculated
Under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act, most non-exempt employees must be paid at least 1.5 times their regular rate for hours worked beyond 40 in a week. Some states and employers also pay overtime after 8 hours in a day, or double time in certain cases.
